A former aide to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, Reno Omokri, has described the demise of Obadiah Mailafia, ex-Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, as ‘fishy.’ Omokri, the Nigerian socio-political activist, has urged relevant authorities to independently investigate Mailafia’s death. “Mailafia’s passing is fishy and should be independently investigated,” he tweeted. The former presidential candidate died at the National Hospital in Abuja. Mailafia, who is an indigene of Southern Kaduna, recently accused some government officials of being responsible for terrorism in Nigeria particularly sponsorship of Boko Haram insurgency.

Ebonyi Governor David Umahi said some PDP governors are not in sync with the agreement of the region producing the next president despite the southern governors’ resolution. Umahi who left the PDP for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2020, had recently given his take on the 2023 presidency zoning controversy in the opposition party. A former deputy governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Dr Obadiah Mailafia, is dead. The 64-year-old ace Vanguard columnist and public intellectual, who had been having running battles with security agents in Nigeria over his controversial statements, is reported to have died at the National Hospital, Abuja. The people of Bonny Local Government Area in Rivers State have been thrown into mourning following the untimely exit of their council’s chairman, David Irimagha. Irimagha died few days after celebrating the first 100 days into his second term in office. The chairman died Saturday at an undisclosed hospital in Port Harcourt, reports say. ExxonMobil, operators of NNPC/MPN Joint Venture, says it has been remitting N7 billion every month as Pay As You Earn (PAYE) to Akwa Ibom government.
