Nigerian banks have refunded N89.2 billion illegally deducted from customers’ money, the governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele stated on Thursday. Emefiele, who spoke at a CBN Fair held simultaneously in Cross River and Akwa Ibom, said the monies were returned after customers’ complaints as at June 2021. Represented by Osita Nwanisobi, spokesman for the CBN, the governor said the cumulative number of complaints from customers of banks as of June was 23,526 while 22,173 were resolved. An approval has been given for $11.174 billion contract for the construction of a standard-gauge coastal railway from Lagos through Uyo to Calabar in Cross River. A 21-year-old man from Akwa Ibom State has been sentenced to death by hanging for taking part in robbery in March last year. Ekemini Otuakak Edet, who hails from Oruko in Orueffong/Uruko Local Government Area of the state, admitted to have robbed MI AMAN Pharmacy at 44, Aka Nung Udoe Road. Edet was, therefore, sentenced Wednesday by the Uyo High Court presided over by Justice Okon Okon.
