The Nigerian Army has described the treatment of some soldiers during the temporary closure of Banex Plaza in Wuse by yet-to-be-identified hoodlums as unjustifiable. In a press statement issued on Monday via X by the Director of Army Public Relations, Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, the Army shed light on the circumstances surrounding the closure and the measures being taken to address the security situation. Sterling Global Petrochemical Company is treading Akwa Ibom dreaded footpath, following reports of maltreatment of its indigenous workers. The company, a foreign oil prospecting firm operating within the state, operating in Ikot Abasi, Mkpat Enin, and Eastern Obollo Local Government Areas, has been warned to address the allegations or face severe sanctions, including licence and land revocation. World leaders are mourning the untimely passing of Iranian President H.E. Ebrahim Raisi and other members of Iran’s republic government. Raisi and Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian were found dead after their helicopter, which was returning from a trip to the Iran-Azerbaijan border, crashed in a foggy forested region. All eleven on board, including Iran’s president, were killed. The crash comes as the Israel-Hamas war roils the region. Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has filed a lawsuit against Nigeria’s 36 governors and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, Mr Nyesom Wike “over their failure to account for the spending of trillions of FAAC allocations collected by their states and the FCT since 1999.” The suit followed reports that the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) disbursed N1.123 trillion to the federal, state, and local governments for March 2024. Unknown gunmen abducted the Paramount Ruler of Mbo Local Government Area in Akwa Ibom State, Ogwong Okon Asukwo Abang, from his palace in Ebughu on Saturday by 9 p.m. This incident adds to growing concerns over the deteriorating security situation in the Oron axis.
