Topfaith University, Mkpatak in Essien Udim Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State and 19 private universities in Nigeria have gotten the Federal Government’s nod to operate officially. The Federal Executive Council (FEC), Wednesday, approved the establishment of 20 new private universities in Nigeria at the meeting presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari. This brings to three the number of officially recognised private universities in Akwa Ibom State. Others are Obong University in Etim Ekpo Local Government Area and Ritman University, Ikot Ekpene. Concerned about the rising spate of insecurity in the country, Taraba State governor, Darius Ishaku has urged the Federal government to allow Nigerians to carry licensed guns to defend themselves against criminals elements. A 97-year-old bed-ridden woman suffered serious burns, but a neighbour carried her to safety through the flames as her home was razed in Ban Kruat district on Wednesday afternoon. Grandma Lub Lapromma was alone in the house at Moo 10 village in tambon Nong Mai Ngam in Thailand when the fire began. She lived there with her son, but he was away at the time.
