Three police officers have reportedly drowned while on their way to Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of Bayelsa for Saturday’s bye-election. The yet-to-be-identified officers were on their way to monitor the Senatorial bye-election holding in two senatorial zones when their boat capsized. The spokesman of the Police Command in Bayelsa, SP Asinim Butswat, who confirmed the incident, said the boat capsized on its way to Oporoma, Headquarters of Southern Ijaw Local Government Area. Butswat, however, added that they were yet to ascertain the total number of police officers involved in the incident.

Eighteen people have died in a coal mine in Chongqing, south-west China, following a carbon monoxide leak, state media reported on Saturday. An Appeal Court in Abuja, Friday, December 4 upheld the death verdict passed on Maryam Sanda for killing her husband.
