Some youths in Akwa Ibom State have joined their colleagues in embarking on peaceful protest along some major roads and streets in the state. The youths who marched through some major roads later assembled at Oron Road-Four Lanes Junction. Carrying placards and banner with inscriptions like END POLICE BRUTALITY, BAD GOVERNANCE AND ABUSE OF POWER, END INJUSTICE AND IMPUNITY, the protesters dangled them on passers-by. The Nigerian state governors have joined #ENDSARS demonstrators in calling for improved governance based on enforcement of the fundamental human rights and liberties of all citizens in the country. Soldiers have stormed and taken over strategic places in Abuja, the country’s capital to ward off planned #EndSARS contrary to earlier several warnings against it. The military officers were stationed at the popular Aya roundabout early Monday morning, with a roadblock and barricade. A 24-hour curfew has been imposed on Edo by the State government. The curfew is to take effect from 4 p.m. October 19, 2020. The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) Sunday evening, October 18, confirmed 133 new cases of Coronavirus infection in the country. Straightnews reports that the new cases of COVID-19 infection were confirmed via the NCDC’s official Twitter handle. This brings the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Nigeria to 61,440 which includes 56,611 discharged cases and 1,125 deaths. The infections were reported in nine states with Lagos State recording the highest number of new confirmed cases, followed by Rivers State and FCT. As the #ENDSARS protest rocking Nigerian states entered Day 11, thirteen persons are alleged to have been extra judicially killed in the course of the protest.
