Before now, 142 chairmanship aspirants jostled for nomination to fill 31 chairmanship positions, while 789 aspirants gunned for councillorship positions in 368 electoral wards in the state, an authoritative source in PDP told Straightnews. After three months, Akwa Ibom Government has reopened livestock markets in the state for commercial activities. The government shut down the markets on May 11 following allegations that some livestock dealers were bringing strange people into the state and placed a ban on cattle, goats and rams from being moved into the state to curb the spread of Coronavirus. The Companies and Allied Matters Act (CAMA) 2020 recently signed into law by President Muhammadu Buhari has generated unusual controversy. Buhari had on August 7 signed the Act into law after it was passed by the National Assembly. The newly signed Act replaced the 1990 CAMA. Economic activities are paralysed in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State capital on Tuesday following protest by mini-bus drivers over sale of tickets by National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW). Major roads such as Ikot Ekpene and Oron Roads and Wellington Bassey Way and Ikpa Road and adjoining streets leading to the plaza were cordoned off to prevent escalation of the protest. Nigeria is to resume the international flight operations on August 29, the Federal Government has announced. The flight was suspended due to the ravaging COVID-19 that decimated thousands globally. The Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika, made the announcement Monday in Abuja at the briefing of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19. “We are very glad today to announce that international flights will resume from August 29, 2020,” he said.
