The National President and Archbishop of the Lutheran Church of Nigeria, Most Reverend Dr. Christian Ekong has called on Nigerians to be hopeful, despite the downturn of things in the country.

Most Rev. Ekong gave the message at a thanksgiving service to round off the 43rd Regular Council of the Church held at Obot Idim, Ibesikpo Asutan Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.

Preaching on the new theme of the church “Christ for us” with sub-theme “Life pattern for the present time,” Archbishop Ekong urged Christians to embrace the hope of salvation, eternal life and hope for the church through Jesus Christ who alone can save them from the afflictions and oppression experienced in the world today.

He advised Christian faithful to continue to believe in God for a better country.

The three-day regular council of 2022 coincided with the end of the Christian calendar year and the beginning of the new year of the Christian church which also ushered in the advent season.

The Chairman of the planning committee for the council, Elder Effiong Essien while speaking with journalists at the event ground, gave insights on the deliberations, and resolutions which included review of the past year activities and adoption of new administrative and spiritual policies meant to  move the Lutheran church forward.

Highpoint of the event was the reading of the resolutions by the National Secretary of the church, Reverend Anietie Ntong.

The 21-point resolution called for restructuring of the nation so that wealth could be evenly created and distributed for the benefit of the citizens of the country while also urging every Lutheran to take active part in politics to select credible leaders who will lead in God’s fear and favour.

The council further re-emphasised the need for members to be security conscious, avoid keeping late nights and running programs and activities into late hours.

It upheld the preserving of the environment, and called on communities to create innovative solutions towards a sustainable future while urging the governments to promote investment in clean power technologies.

The Council attracted ministers, delegates, members of the Boards of Directors and Trustees, Institutions, among others from Lutheran churches across the country.
