Against a myriad of problems confronting Nigerians, a Roman Catholic priest has called on leaders in positions of authority in the country to work for the interest of the people to ameliorate their problems.
The Catholic Bishop of Uyo Diocese, Rt. Rev. John Ayah, who stated this during Sunday Easter Mass at Christ The King Cathedral, Wellington Bassey Way, Uyo, said authority comes from God, cautioning the people to refrain from negative criticisms of their leaders.
The cleric, who stressed the need for people to continuously pray for those in leadership positions, implored Governor Udom Emmanuel to do more to accommodate the unemployed youths in the state.
Ayah, however, applauded the achievements of the Governor Emmanuel-led administration particularly for floating the state Airline- Ibom Air, saying that it was an indication of Emmanuel’s prudent utilization of resources.
The priest who described Easter as a period of celebrating God’s love for human beings, called Christians to reflect on their relationship with God during the Easter season.
He congratulated the Governor on his victory at the polls, commending security agencies for their role in combating crime and stated that their efforts have enabled Akwa Ibom to be adjudged as the most peaceful state in the country.
Mr. Udom Emmanuel, has called on the Christians to use the Easter season in appreciating individuals who have made sacrifices for their well-being.
Emmanuel, accompanied by the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Onofiok Luke, described Easter as a significant period in Christendom.
He urged the people to use the season to express gratitude to their parents for their selflessness in nurturing them to adulthood.
He commended the Christian Community for persistently praying for the success of his administration, lauding their support throughout the electioneering period and appreciated them for the confidence in re-electing him as Governor for a second term.
