US President-elect Joe Biden and vice President-elect Kamala Harris have paid homage to more than 400,000 Americans who died of COVID-19 from March 2019 to November 19, 2020.

The Presidential team was received by Catholic Bishop of Washington D.C., Cardinal Wilton Gregory, the first African American to be raised to the Cardinalate in US history.

The Catholic Prelate opened the brief ceremony with an invocation for Gods guidance of the New Biden-Harris team and for healing and for the unity of the American nation.

After this, the President-elect Mr. Biden gave a brief address honoring the memory of all COVID-19 victims.

Shortly after, Kamala, the Vice President-elect, introduced a registered Nurse herself as a witness to the many victims of COVID-19 pandemic.

Kamala sang the popular Amazing Grace as the President-elect, Biden and his wife, Dr Biden; the Vice President-elect herself, the first African American of South -Asian descent, Kamala and her husband, Mr. Harris; along with Cardinal Gregory and others, stood in silence facing the Washington Memorial to honour those who died during the pandemic.

It was a solemn, meaningful and Spirit-filled beginning of the Biden-Harris leadership, for the American people to behold as they witnessed this touching moment that ushered in the new Biden-Harris administration on the eve of the 46th American Presidential inauguration – this evening of Tuesday, January 19, 2021.

After the brief but powerful ceremony had taken place, all departed in silence!

The Presidential Inauguration is slated for 12 noon, Wednesday 20, 20 in Washington DC.

Thomas S. Ebong, a Mass Communications scholar, prayed ”May they who identify with the aches, and the pains as well as with the aspirations of the American people, bring their leadership through a journey that heals, to a reality that transforms a nation, restoring its past glories to an era of true peace and harmony. As they have openly identified with, and professed their faith in God.

Ebong, who is also a revered Catholic priest now holidaying in Springfield, OH, supplicated ”May God lead them through a fruitful tenure to heal and unite the American people once more, and through them, restore the soul of America to become once again a source of pride and a model for other nations of the world to emulate. Amen.’’
