The 44th Regular Council, the highest decision making body of the Lutheran Church of Nigeria, LCN rose from its three-day sitting with a call on Christians not to lose faith in God, but to believe in his power to deal with issues confronting the nation with an assurance of Him bringing about joy and a new Nigeria in His own time.

The council also re-emphasised the need for Christians to embark on viable sustainable development projects aimed at assisting them to effectively handle financial challenges in the present economic downturn in the country.

These were part of the resolutions reached at the end of the council.

It further advised members of the public to be security conscious in the wake of kidnapping, robbery and trafficking taking a toll in the country.

The resolutions signed by the National President and Archbishop of the church, Most Rev. Dr. Chris Ekong and Nat’l Secretary, Rev. Anietie Ntong felicitated Nigeria’s President, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno on their victory at the polls and subsequent successes at the elections tribunals, pledging the support of the church to the governments of the day.

In a thanksgiving service to round off the meeting , the Vice President of the church, Rt. Rev. Raphael Aju, preaching on the theme “In Christ all things shall be made alive” drawn from 1Cor. 15: 20-28 admonished Christians to refrain from sin and unbelief and embrace Jesus Christ as their Saviour.

Rt . Rev. Aju noted that it is only those who believe in the resurrection of Jesus from the dead that will also be raised in due time.

The service featured prayers for the nation, choir ministrations and Holy Communion.

In his remarks, the Chairman, Central Planning Committee of the event and head of Akwa Ibom Civil Service, Elder Effiong Essien thanked the delegates and other stakeholders for their quality contributions to the success of the programme, adding that the resolutions reached would guide the Lutheran church across all dioceses to perform their duties responsibly and maximally to the glory of God and benefit of humanity.

Among participants at the Council which held at the headquarters of the church in Obot Idim Ibesikpo, Ibesikpo Asutan Local Government Area, Akwa Ibom State, were members of the board of directors , board of Trustees, Ministers and delegates from various Lutheran Church Congregations across Nigeria, representatives of Committees, Boards, Institutions and observers, among others.
