The wife of the late Nigeria’s ex-President, Hajia Aisha Buhari, at an event put together to mark the one-year remembrance of the late President, snubbed the former Senate President and Chairman, Senate Committee on Defence, Ahmad Lawan in Abuja on Monday.
The memorial event held at the Nigerian Army Resource Centre (International Conference Centre) in Asokoro, Abuja featured special Islamic and Christian prayers, including a public presentation of a commemorative book entitled: Tributes and Condolences in Honour of Muhammadu Buhari.
Senator Lawan, who was said to have arrived at the venue on time to attend the event, went to the front to exchange pleasantries with some dignitaries.

A source at the well attended event told Straightnews that “as expected, on arrival at any event of such magnitude, invited guests would always want to exchange pleasantries with the hosts of events.
‘‘The former Senate President met the shock of his life, as his attempt to exchange pleasantries with the former First Lady, was rebuffed by her. She was said to have kept a straight face without attempting to recognise Lawan’s overture to her on the front row of the dignitaries,” the anonymous source hinted.
According to the source, “as a result of the very embarrassing development, Lawan quickly rushed to his seat at the back row. The unfortunate development left tongues wagging as to what would have caused the snubbing of Lawan by the former First Lady.”
The source further told our correspondent that an attempt by the defeated former presidential aspirant of APC to have a picture opposite the former First Lady was summarily rejected by her to the consternation of other guests at the event.’’
Governors Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Babagana Zulum of Lagos and Borno states respectively, who were at the event were said to have been shell-shocked by the development.
Recall that in the countdown to the 2022 presidential primaries of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), some entrenched interests within the corridors of power, led by the incumbent Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodimma, had rallied behind Lawan, as the purported preferred candidate of the late President Muhammadu Buhari -administration against the interest of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
It was learnt that the former First Lady was vehemently opposed to the purported endorsement of Lawan by the Villa Cabal against Tinubu and that was why she publicly displayed her support for Tinubu at the Eagle Square.
The former First Lady, it was further gathered from competent sources at the remembrance ceremony, is yet to forgive Lawan, former Central Bank Governor, Godwin Emefiele, Mamman Daura, among numerous players in her late husband’s administration, whom she believes were responsible for the downward dive of the administration.
Attempts to contact Lawan for his reaction through his known numbers were unsuccessful as he did not pick calls.
