Eighteen officers of Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in the country have been relieved of their duty for committing various offences.

In a series of tweets on Saturday, the corps has dismissed eight of its officers, terminated appointments of 10, reduced the ranks of five personnel, while 10 were awarded various degrees of punishment.

The erring officers were said to have committed offences such as desertion, forgery, number plate racketeering, bribery, scandalous behaviour, driver’s license racketeering, and patrol misconduct, among others.

Bisi Kazeem, the Corps Public Education Officer, stated that the agency’s board approved the punishments, which were in accordance with the provisions of the FRSC Regulation on Discipline, an effort to rid it of indiscipline and corrupt elements.

Kazeem noted that the approval which reaffirmed the Corps’ resolve to align with the anti-corruption policy of President Muhammadu Buhari administration was granted during the meeting of the Board on Friday.

While re-emphasising the need for personnel to desist from any act of indiscipline, the Board stressed that the disciplinary actions were to serve as a deterrent to others who may form the habit of contravening established regulations and tarnishing the good image of the FRSC.

The Corps Marshal, Dr Boboye Oyeyemi, restated that his administration would continue to operate on the tripod of consultation, reward, and punishment.

He, therefore, called on all members of staff to internalise the ideals of the founding fathers whose drive and commitments were geared towards saving lives.

According to Kazeem, the FRSC has ensured the entrenchment of discipline among its personnel with the continuous clampdown on corrupt elements since the inception of the leadership of Dr Oyeyemi as the Corps Marshal.

He stated that a reasonable number of the agency’s staff have received different punishments for misconduct and in the same vein, many others have been commended and appreciated for disciplined and exemplary conduct.

Meanwhile, three FRSC officials Wednesday were  allegedly killed by thunderstorm in Ogun State of in the Ijebu area of the state.

The officials were said to have been struck at their office located at the old Ilese tollgate in the Ijebu North-East Local Government Area of the state.

It was gathered that the incident occurred when the affected officials were planning for the early morning parade in which more than 10 officials were at the scene when the incident happened.

The Public Education Officer of the State Sector Command, Florence Okpe, told Channels Television that she could not confirm the story

“I cannot give any report until when the sector commander is around to give us what really happened, he is not around.

“When he comes back he will tell us what really went wrong. I can’t just start talking because, we don’t really know what happened, whether it was a thunderstorm or whatever until he comes,” she said.
