The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has ordered an immediate investigation of a viral video on social media sowing some of its officers clashing with a driver along Abudu, Edo State.

The video, circulating on X and cited by PUNCH Online on Sunday, shows a driver whipping uniformed FRSC personnel during what appears to be a routine traffic stop.

A background voice in the video explaining the incident claimed that the confrontation allegedly started when the motorist refused to give the officers money.

Other uniformed FRSC officers intervene at this moment to separate the driver from their colleague.

“Because you tried to collect money from him and he didn’t give, you used the plastic (traffic safety cone) in your hand to hit him at the steering,” a voice is heard narrating the incident that angered the driver and led to him flogging the FRSC officer.

In a statement issued on Sunday by Corps Public Education Officer, Olusegun Ogungbemide, the Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, said the episode was a matter of “deep concern” and promised that the circumstances surrounding the confrontation would be thoroughly examined.

“The attention of the Federal Road Safety Corps has been drawn to a viral video circulating on social media showing an altercation between some FRSC officers and a driver along Abudu, Edo State, Nigeria, on Saturday, 25th October, 2025.

“The Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, has expressed deep concern over the incident and has ordered an immediate investigation to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the confrontation.

“He emphasised that the Corps does not condone any form of unprofessional conduct or behaviour that undermines the integrity and discipline for which the FRSC is known.

“He further assured members of the public that appropriate disciplinary measures will be taken against any officer found culpable, in line with the Corps’ operational guidelines and public service rules,” the statement read.

The corps appealed to the motoring public to remain calm and cooperate with FRSC officers, whom it described as committed to ensuring safer roads and protecting lives nationwide.

“While the FRSC remains steadfast in its mission to promote road safety, maintain order, and uphold the highest standards of professionalism in service delivery, the corps marshal will also not tolerate any form of assault or violence against its personnel from members of the public in the course of duty,” the statement added.
