The Federal Road Safety Commission, Akwa Ibom Command has warned drivers and vehicle owners in the state against patronising touts to process their driver’s licence.

Mr. Oga Ochi, making the appeal in his first media interaction in his office in Uyo on Wednesday, asked them to use designated FRSC office for the purpose.

Ochi, who assumed duty as the 19th Sector Commander of the FRSC of the state Command,

however, urged tricycle operators in the state not to take over the roads as if they were the only road users, warning that they should not constitute nuisance on the roads.

“The activities of tricycles operators in the state need some form of education. They hardly recognise other road users. This unruly behaviour cannot continue on our roads.

“We must educate them to ensure sanity while using the roads with others,” he said.

“All road users must be obedient to traffic rules and regulations. We must obey traffic lights and consider other road users,” Ochi said.

The new sector commander urged the media to continue in the enlightenment campaigns to inculcate safety consciousness on road users while on the highways.

“The media will help us, as usual, to propagate the COVID-19 protocols to motorists to avoid overloading, observe physical distancing to curtail the spread of the virus in the state.

“Vehicles should not be overloaded now, they should carry less passengers to ensure physical distancing.

Ochi said that he would work in line with the FRSC core mandate while in the state by ensuring safety on all roads and that no life would be lost.

He commended Governor Udom Emmanuel and the State Government for the support accorded the sector command, promising to work with all the stakeholders to maintain safety.

Our correspondent reports that Ochi, who was Head of Operations, FRSC Headquarters, took over from Mr. Sunday Oghenekaro, who was recently promoted and retired in May after meritorious service.
