The Forum of Past Chairmen of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ in Akwa Ibom, has challenged the new team led by Comrade Amos Etuk as chairman, to quickly get to work to improve the practice of journalism profession and the welfare of members in the state.
In a congratulatory to the new executive, the forum congratulated the chairman and other winners in the keenly contested State Council elections held on August 2, 2019.
The Forum also lauded the peaceful atmosphere that reigned during the exercise, observing that as watch dogs who criticise the conduct of politicians at national elections, it would have been inappropriate if a different scenario had existed.
In a statement released by its coordinator, Mr. Ikpong Essien-Udom, the Forum advised the new executive members to be magnanimous and humble in victory and to carry every body along, describing the union as the collective property of every member which should be protected from avoidable hiccups.
It called on all journalists to join hands with the executive to take the Union to a higher pedestal decorated with professionalism, accountability, transparency and solidarity.
The past leaders, in the statement, appreciated the immediate past chairman, Elder Patrick Albert, on a successful tenure, and formally welcome him to the Forum.
