Suspected gunmen abducted 23 students of Greenfield University in Kaduna State on Wednesday, a family member of one of the missing students said.
The gunmen are said to be demanding payment of N800 million ransom to secure the release of about 23 students and staffers of the institution.
”Negotiations are going on, the kidnappers have contacted some family members, asking for the payment of N800 million,” a cousin to one of the kidnapped students, Georgina Stephen has said.
She said the abductors asked her family to pay N8 million ransom before they could secure the release of their sister from captivity.
According to Georgiana, the abducted 23 included 14 girls, six boys and three staffers of the university.
She said the kidnapers had subjected the students to torture, saying unless the ransom is paid all the students in captivity would be killed.
Recall that 39 students of Federal College of Forestry Mechanisation, Afaka in Kaduna State kidnapped are still in captivity, though some had escaped from the bandits’ den.
It is claimed that the parents and relations of the kidnapped students are negotiating payment of ransom individually since Mallam Nasir El-Rufai has ruled out any negotiation or payment of ransom to the bandits..
