The Chancellor of Ibom Patriots, Obong Bassey Inuaeyen, has bidden relations, associates and friends eternal goodbye as he bowed to death.
Until his demise, Obong Inuaeyen was the Political Leader of Ini Local Government Area, a one-time Peoples Democratic Party governorship aspirant, Chancellor of Ibom Patriots, Chairman, Basestar Engineering, alumnus of University of Lagos, a community leader of repute, and a unifier.
Confirming the news in a telephone with Straightnews chief on Monday, July 10, Peter Inuaeyen, who is his brother said he died on Friday, June 30 in the United States of America.

Inuaeyen, a former Commissioner for Local Government Service Commission in the state, said he was sick and had gone there for treatment.
‘‘Actually, he recovered fully. He booked his flight and wanted to return to Nigeria on July 2. Surprisingly, he passed on during the time he was preparing to return home. Well, God knows best,’’ he added.
A prominent member of Ibom Patriots, Rt. Hon. Friday who spoke to Straightnews on telephone described Inuaeyen’s death as ‘‘pathetic.’’
Iwok who is also a two-term member of Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly representing Abak State Constituency said ‘‘We appreciate Inuaeyen well in that during his lifetime, he contributed meaningfully to the development of his local government area and the state.’’
Earlier, the Paramount Ruler of Ini Local Government Area, Edidem Udoette Edon had announced the death of the Political Leader of the Ini Local Government Area and member, Nkari Clan Council, Obong Bassey Inuaeyen.
Proclaiming on behalf of the Nkari Clan Council of Chiefs, at his palace in Mbente Village, Ini local government area on Saturday, Edidem Edon who is also the Osung V of Nkari Clan said their distinguished departed council member, Obong Inuaeyen died on 30th June, 2023 in the United States of America, USA after a brief illness.
According to the monarch, “On behalf of the Nkari Clan Council of Chiefs, I formally announce the death of our Distinguished Member of the Council, the Obong Iberedem of Nkari Clan Obong Bassey Inuaeyen who died on Friday, 30th June 2023 at United States of America, USA.’’
The monarch solicited cooperation from the Akwa Ibom State Government, friends, associates, and sympathisers within the period of grief to give the departed a befitting burial as the funeral date will soon be made public.
Also speaking, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Uyo, Prof. Nyaudo Ndaeyo in his address said he found it difficult to speak about his departed brother, Late Obong Bassey Inuaeyen using ‘past tenses’ description as Nkari has lost a philanthropist who through his scholarship scheme have seen many sons and daughters through education in various tertiary institutions within and outside the state.
The head of the service, Ibeno Local Government Council, Obong Ndaeyo Inuaeyen affirmed that the late Obong Bassey was a man well known for his good vision of prosperity for the people of Nkari and development-oriented mindset.
Presenting his message of consolation, Mr. Victor Isong, the Chairman of the PDP Stakeholders Forum described the demise of Obong Bassey as the most painful, regrettable, and reflective in all shades, citing his legacies and goodwill to the people of Nkari, Ini Local Government Area and Akwa Ibom State.
The proclamation event had in attendance, prominent sons and daughters of the area, including the former Chairman of Ini Local Government Council, Otuekong Effiong Udoette, former Board Member Local Government Service Commission, Hon. Peter Inuaeyen, CSP. Godwin Udoette, Supervisor for information Hon. Okon Akang, and village heads in Nkari Clan.
