Following backlash for insulting some Yoruba monarchs and leaders, Sunday Adeyemo popularly known as Sunday Igboho, the Yoruba activist, has apologised to them.
Ibogho specifically begged Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Ogunwusi; APC National leader, Bola Tinubu; Governor of Oyo state, Seyi Makinde and other Yoruba elders to forgive him for describing them as ”Fulani slaves.”
Igboho in a virtual meeting on Tuesday, February 2, accused the Ooni of failing to tell President Muhammadu Buhari the truth about the plight of Yorubas during a meeting in Abuja last week.
“Our leaders are lazy and slaves to Fulanis. They visit Abuja to collect money. We will attack them and destroy their property. Ooni should be dealt with. I am annoyed. Why should we be afraid of the crown they (Yoruba monarchs) wear? Tinubu and other Yoruba politicians are Fulani slaves” he said
Makinde is also a slave to the herders because of second term ambition,” he added.
In an interview with Isokan Omo Oodua TV, Igboho begged for forgiveness from the monarch, who he described as his father.
“They said I insulted the Ooni of Ife. I and the monarch, as well as the Olugbon, have spoken on the phone. The Yoruba tradition doesn’t permit the insult of elders. But because I was pained by the issue, my tongue was caught up in the moment.
”I spoke according to how pained I was. It wasn’t the Ooni alone I directed my words at I also did to other elders.
”It’s a case of father and child. I and the monarch have spoken as well as the Olugbon. I did not insult the Ooni. And if it appears as if I did, he should forgive me,” he said.
However, some social media users have hailed Igboho for speaking the truth, though it sounded as insults to the Yoruba elders.
God First wrote ”Apology accepted, but those Kings dey fuck up too. Fulani is killing us and yet they still want to depend on Nigerian Police dominated by Fulani/Hausa people. I just don’t get it, now they are no more killing on the farm lands only, high way express roads are currently dangerous because of them, infact no where you see them with cows, just run as far as you can. Na how we go dey look be this?’’
Babaadelonikosoroke# tweeted ”He said that he did not insult the ooni. He spoke the truth, no insults. Are they not slaves? How many times have they spoken up against the killings of their people? All they do is to rush to Abuja in order to remain politically relevant.
”They are nothing but political Obas and chiefs. As for tinubu, your relevance has waned and it’s just a matter of time before you pay for the killings and assassinations under your watch.
An anonymous wrote ”Igboho reaction is representative of the utter frustration shared by the majority of the people. I cannot understand why you will have “elders” and yoruba “elites” and things are been ‘managed.’ What the hell is going on before our eyes. These people are sooo sooo detached from the misery
Another anonymous persons penned ”Igboho is so Humble, A typical example of a well trained Yoruba. He knows the culture. Though he spoke Truth about the Ooni, The Ooni will never stop to reflect that that is how we feel about him.
”Not Just Igboho. He Ooni should retrace his steps. Yoruba don’t want Nigeria anymore Period. They should do away with Politics.’’
