Nigeria’s Minister of Defence, Major General Bashir Magashi has come under verbal bombardment for asking Nigerians not to be cowards when attacked by bandits.

The Minister, who addressed reporters on violent attacks in some parts of the country,  said people should not be cowards as bandits sometimes possess few rounds of ammunition.

The Presidency sent the name of Magashi last week for confirmation and he is yet to being screened by the Senate.

This is as Nigeria’s Government is opposed to its citizens bearing firearms for self-defence in the face of worsening insecurity.

Reacting to this, Femi Fani-Kayode wondered if Magashi knows he has failed in his job of protecting Nigerians. He also expressed confidence in Nigerians not running if they were equipped with guns.

FFK tweeted ”The Defence Minister says Nigerians are cowards, that they always run when attacked by terrorists & that they should defend & protect themselves.

‘’Does he know that it is HIS job to protect the people & he failed? Equip every Nigerian with an AK 47 & see if they will still run.’’

Recall that Boko Haram insurgents, killer Fulani herdsmen and lately bandits have been on the prowl killing, raping and kidnapping innocent and security agents in the country.

While Indigenous Peoples Biafra (IPOB) has been declared terrorist organization, other killer groups are yet to be branded as terrorist groups.
