Director Compliance, Monitoring and Enforcement, NCC, Mr. Efosa Idehen stated this, Thursday, at a one day regional sensitisation workshop on the dangers of dealing on fraudulently activated Sim cards held at Keffi, Nasarawa State.
According to him, most of the arrests were made in Jigawa and Gombe states and they have been charged to court.
Idehen said “As a government, we are putting in place, strong process to track any criminal engaging in fraudulent registration of Sim cards. We understand that one if the issues driving this is meeting target but you cannot micro-manage it.
“We are not going to compromise in driving out these people out of the market. We have been getting results from the MoU we signed with the NSDC, hoping that the proposed MoU with NIMC will probably bring everything to check.”
Earlier, Mr. Sunday Dare, Executive Commissioner Stakeholders Management, NCC, had said the essence of the workshop was to ensure standardised subscriber registration in the country and also ensure easy detection of subscriber identity.
Dare, who was represented on the occasion by Mr. Idehen said the commission had given eight years grace for operators and their agents to clean up their data and has now resolved to be rootless with anybody found culpable in the commission of the crime.
