A popular Nigerian preacher, Pastor Paul Enenche,  is under fire for publicly labeling a member who testified in his Church that she bagged B.sc in Law a ‘liar.’

During a testimony session, Enenche, the founder of Dunamis International Gospel Centre, Abuja in a viral video publicly embarrassed a woman, calling her a liar after testifying that she  graduated with ‘BSc in Law.’

The woman, Anyim Veronica Nnenna, who attends his church in Abuja was on the altar to share her testimony of how God made her the “only graduate in her family despite numerous hurdles that almost made the journey unsuccessful.”

Worried by her command of English Language, the clergyman asked the lady what degree did she graduate with and she said ‘’Law.”

Prodding further, the cleric asked her what kind of Law degree, the lady answered ‘’B.sc in Law.”

According to the clergyman, the right title for a law graduate is ‘LLB’, hence tagging the lady a liar and asked that the lady leave the altar, warning his members never to come to the altar to lie about a “testimony.”

However, further reports unveiled that Veronica who is a police officer graduated from the National Open University with a LL.B degree, stirring outrage on social media.

Meanwhile the pictures of her graduation from National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) have surfaced and the graduation list with her name on no. 2262 and the degree awarded clearly stated as LL.B.

Also, on her Facebook page, Anyim, whose pictures on social media shows to be a police inspector, penned an appreciation to God for seeing her through her education.

“And it came to pass yesterday 13th April being Saturday, 2024 at National Open university Abuja. Father, I am saying thank you for making me to graduate from my Law programme. Congratulations to me once again. Two Celebrations just for me in this month of April my birthday. You are too faithful to fail me. Friends join me and thank God for all he has done for me. Thank you Jesus hallelujah hallelujah hallelujah hallelujah hallelujah hallelujah Amen,” she wrote.

Many insisted that the preacher recall the lady back to the pulpit and tender an apology to her for throwing her testimony down the bin.

Also speaking on the issue, a former aide to former President Goodluck Jonathan, Reno Omokri on his X page attributed Anyim’s grammatical mistakes to anxiety.

‘When you are giving a testimony in church or before any large crowd, and you are not used to public speaking, you can get nervous. Anxiety and edginess often lead to unforced errors. Your spoken English or other language does not flow, and you make grammatical mistakes. You see this with beauty contestants during the Q&A part of the competition. It does not mean that the person is automatically lying,” he said.

Also speaking, a lawyer practicing in Abuja, Barr. Nma Dickson argued that not all lawyers have the power of oratory, adding that she struggles with fluency in spoken English too.

“I don’t agree with Pastor Enenche on this one,” she said.

“She may just not have known or have it impressed on her mind that her law degree isn’t a Bsc. It is very possible! May even be stage fright. Bsc, B.L, both have B.

“Every lawyer do not have the power of oratory. I do struggle with fluency in spoken English. Yes!”

Irebamiolakanm1 said: “I still won’t blame the Pastor, after studying in Sch for 5 yrs and you don’t know the title of the degree you earned. It’s well.”

Favour Diamen noted: “Same thing I told my mum after seeing the video on IG. She prolly isn’t too good with English, but you could tell from the shock on her face that she meant what she said even though she couldn’t defend it. I feel bad after Pastor Paul embarrassed her. He should apologize fast.”

ideniyor stated, “She needs to be called back to the pulpit, apologized to and celebrated.”

OluwadaraTolu said: “That’s demoralizing. The height of the disgrace was overboard. They have to reconcile with her.”

jeremiadetunji wrote: “What she studied for 5 years. And law school of a year? Haba! That’s a big embarrassment to her and the school she graduated from.”
