A senior staffer of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, Akwa Ibom State Command was among the six persons arrested and arraigned in court over alleged vandalisation of four transformers valued at N18 million in Uyo, Akwa Ibom capital.

He is one Inspector Emmanuel Sampson attached to the command.

Others are Kufre Elijah Okon, Daniel Okon Udom, Maurice Cosmos Akpan, Henshaw Ini Peter and Daniel Isaac Omnipotent, all males and staffers of Teskom Guards Security, situated at 15 IBB Way in Uyo local government area.

They were said to have been arrested while they were vandalising the 300/33/0.415 KV transformers at Switch yard, Idongesit Nkanga Secretariat, Uyo.

Addressing the press on Thursday at the state Police Command Headquarters, Ikot Akpan Abia, Musa Kimo, Akwa Ibom Police Commissioner said the police in collaboration with NSCDC arrested the suspects.

Kimo said “During investigation, operatives recovered N1,010,000 being proceeds of the stolen transformer,” saying that the matter had been charged to court.

Meanwhile, Akwa Ibom police working in synergy with the Nigerian Army arrested and charged seven crude oil vandals to court in Akwa Ibom State.

The suspects- Adamu Bala, Rabiu Abdulahi, Salisu Ali Yakubu, Ifeanyi Innocent Ogoke, Abdullahi Ali, Bassey Onoyom and Aniefon Samuel Umoren- were arrested on December 27, 2018 in Mbak Atai Itam, Itu local government area of the state.

The police commissioner explained that the vandals were picked while they attempted to smuggle three trucks loaded with iron metals suspected to have been vandalised from Nigerian Newsprint Manufacturing Company (NNMC), Oku Iboku in Itu.
