The members of Nsit Atai Village Youth Leaders Forum Wednesday impeached Comrade Ndu Davis Akpan led executive of the forum over allegations bordering on abuse of office and financial impropriety.
The decision to impeach Comr. Ndu Akpan was reached during an emergency meeting of the forum held at Afaha Unity Hall, Odot in Nsit Atai Local Government Area where the Village Youth Leaders unanimously passed a vote of no confidence on his administration.
In a communique jointly endorsed by its Vice President, Mr Effiong Udo Akpan, Mr. Williams Sunday, Youth Leader, Afaha Clan, Mr Bassey Okon Bassey, Ibiakot Clan and many others, the forum said the decision to impeach its former leader was made after careful and due consideration of the allegations leveled against him.

Among other allegations leveled against the ousted President of the forum are claims of gross misconduct and dereliction of duty, failure to uphold the organization’s ethics, misuse of the organization’s resources for personal gain, failure to maintain accurate financial record and undermining of the organization’s integrity, vision, mission and reputation.
In moving a motion for the dissolution of the former executive committee, Mr. Peter Edet Akpan from Ikot Nko Village stated that Comrade Ndu Akpan-led EXCO has remained in office for over a decade, beyond the constitutionally mandated term limits, demonstrating a disregard for the rules and norms that govern the organization.
Speaking in the same vein, Mr Aniefiok Jeremiah said that the impeached president had hindered efforts to develop a clear succession plan, leaving the organization vulnerable to leadership crisis. According to him, the ousted administration had failed to ensure free and fair elections, denying members the right to choose their leaders, therefore leading in perpetuity.
“By overstaying in office, Comrade Ndu Akpan has therefore compromised the integrity of our organization, eroded the trust among stakeholders and has jeopardized our collective future” the communique stated.
Continuing, the forum quipped “We believe it is essential to restore the trust, ensure accountability and facilitate a smooth transition of leadership. In view of the foregoing, we hereby impeach Comrade Ndu Akpan and his executive, removing them from office effective immediately, pending further investigations and disciplinary actions”.
With the mandate of other youth leaders, the immediate past Vice President of the forum announced the appointment of Prince Ubong Sunday as the Interim President of Nsit Atai Youth Leaders Forum, among other appointees to act as an interim committee to manage the affairs of the forum pending the election of new executives.
He urged all members to remain calm and united during the period as they strive to ensure that the organization is restored to its former glory.
Responding, the interim President, Prince Ubong Sunday from Afaha Clan assured the Youth Leaders Forum of his determination to be accountable and transparent in projecting the aims and objectives of the organization.
He, thereafter, announced the constitution of an electoral committee to conduct elections into new offices for the forum, with Mr Etim Udo Akpan as Chairman, Mr. Williams Sunday, the Secretary, while Victor Job and Anthony Sam are to serve as Treasurer and Public Relations Officer respectively.
The event was witnessed by youth leaders from different Villages in Nsit Atai Local Government Area.
