As part of efforts to fight malaria scourge in local Nigerian communities, Sterling Oil Exploration and Energy Production Company Ltd, SEEPCO, is working with Akwa Ibom State government and Vcare for Development Foundation (VCDF), a Non-Governmental Organisation, to educate community dwellers on how to live a malaria-free life.
The company sponsored an outreach in selected local government areas in Akwa Ibom to enlighten nursing mothers on malaria prevention, early diagnosis and the importance of using available malaria services.
At Mbiokporo in Nsit Ibom Local Government Area, the nursing mothers received health counsel on how to avoid the scourge, with health workers demonstrating the correct use of insecticide treated nets and addressing common misconceptions about malaria, while also reinforcing confidence in existing public health services.

Apart from the sensitisation programme, the company held a road walk tagged “walk to end malaria,” where an official of the state hospital management board described the exercise as timely and worthwhile.
“I am grateful to be part of this walk to end malaria for good. The fight against malaria requires constant community action, early treatment and the right preventive habits. Every household must remain part of the response,” the official who did not want to be named said.
Research shows that limited access to malaria healthcare services and low community health literacy contribute to Nigeria’s rising malaria burden, with over 24 million cases confirmed in 2025, a development that negates the well-being of many households, especially women and children as highlighted in the World Health Organization (WHO) World Malaria Report 2025.
