The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Biodun Oyebanji, is the winner of the 2022 Ekiti State governorship election.
Oyebanji who was elected governor by a 30 per cent margin on June 18, over first runner-up and SDP nominee will succeed the incumbent governor, Kayode Fayemi in October 2022.
Announcing the results Sunday, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) said Oyebanji polled 187,057 votes to defeat his two closest challengers, Segun Oni of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and Bisi Kolawole of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
Oni polled a total of 82,211 and Bisi Kolawole scored a total of 67,457 votes.

Born on December 21,1967, he graduated from Ondo State University, currently known as Ekiti State University, with a degree in Political Science in 1989. He also earned a Master’s degree in Political Science from the University of Ibadan in 1992.
Married to Professor Oyebanji, an associate professor at the University of Ibadan, he started as a lecturer at the Department of Political Science, University of Ado Ekiti and worked from 1993 to 1997.
Oyebanji was the Secretary to the Ekiti State Government under Governor Kayode from October 2018 to December 2021 before he resigned to run for the governorship.
