A fake Nigerian soldier and a civilian have been arrested by men of Akwa Ibom Police Command for allegedly snatching a car from a woman in Port Harcourt at gunpoint.
Mr. Imohimi Edgal, the Commissioner for Police in Akwa Ibom, stated this at the state Police Command, Ikot Akpan Abia in Uyo Local Government Area, during a press conference on Tuesday.
Edgal said “Operatives arrested one Godwin Manas ‘m’ of Odieke village, Rivers State and a fake soldier No. 09/62/1052 Lance Corporal John Lucas ‘m’ of Bauchi State who robbed and snatched an ash colour Toyota Corolla Car 2008 model, Reg. No. KWL 837 AX from a lady along Ada George Road, Port Harcourt.”
According to him, “The said stolen car has been recovered. Other exhibits include a complete set of Army camouflage with a pair of boot. Suspects confessed snatching the recovered car at gunpoint.”
He also stated that “On 22/7/2020 at about 1:00 p.m, Operatives of the Anti-Narcotic Squad, acted on a creditable intelligence and arrested one Frank Ichikpro ‘m’, 48 yrs, and Ifeanyi Esegue ‘m’, 39 yrs, both of them hail from Delta State, who specialize in trailing and robbing unsuspecting bank customers after the withdrawal of money.
“On 20/1/2020, the suspects trailed one Anthony Bassey John ‘m’ from the bank to where his car was parked at Nteps supermarket and broke into the said car with a master key, and stole a sum of one million, five hundred thousand naira (N1.5M).
“The suspects confessed membership of a four-man gang operating in a Highlander and Lexus jeeps while trailing their victims. Exhibits recovered from the suspects include one Highlander Jeep with Reg. No. KRD 361 FX, a sum of one hundred and sixty thousand naira (N160,000.00), and a master key.”
The Commissioner for Police recalled that “On 6/8/2020 at about 4:00 a.m, operatives of Operation Purge, while on intensive stop and search along Iwukem/Etim Ekpo road intercepted one ash colour Toyota Camry car with Reg. No. AV 869 ABC, stolen at gunpoint and driven by one of the suspects, one Abraham Dominic Eyo ‘m’ of Ikot Osong, Etinan Local Government Area.
“The suspect confessed that the vehicle was snatched from one Ibifaka Daniel ‘f’ at Rivers State. The said vehicle and a bunch of car master keys recovered.”
In another development, he stated “Upon reliable information on 8/7/2020 at about 4:00 p.m, SARS operatives arrested one Kingsley Francis Ekpenyong ‘m’, Michael Etuk Akpanobot ‘m’, Boniface Nya Eshiet ‘m’ and David Friday Okuk ‘m’, all of Ikono Local Government Area, along Ikot Ekpene/Uyo Road. Items recovered from them include one locally made pistol and one single barrel gun.”
“All the suspects confessed being members of Black Axe confraternity.
