Popular Nigerian business leader and motivational public speaker gave up the ghost in Lagos in the wee hours of December 26, 2020.
Ubong King who was also known as the ‘Troublemaker’ was said to have died from COVID-19 complications.
The security expert and founder of Protection Plus Security Limited was a former chairman of The American Society of Industrial Security (ASIS) International Chapter 206, Lagos. He facilitated and spoke at leadership and management retreats within and outside Nigeria.
Survived by Unyime Ivy-King, his wife and four children, he began his career as a volunteer guard in the protocol department of the church he was attending at the time.
King also worked as a consultant in a piggery, before venturing into the security industry. King went on to start Protection Plus Security Limited.
The gifted also curated the ‘ThinknationXX’ annual event that gathered people across Nigeria and Africa to help them with mental shift for business growth.
His wife confirmed the unfortunate occurrence via a Facebook post on Sunday morning.
“This is an open post to everyone just to respond to all who have tried to reach me that I’m unable to respond to because of the volumes of calls coming in.
“I will be unavailable for a while after this post so my children and I can process in private.
“All I want to say right now is that my everlasting date Ubong King has completed the short 48 years assignment that our Lord asked him to do and he’s at peace now.
“This is in response to all the calls I can’t pick just now- please bear with me. I need to keep my mind strong so love me from a distance and pray for us all.
“I can’t do RIP yet – maybe later. But the family and I are stable and God is in our corner,” Amb Unyime Ivy-King penned the emotional lines.
In his tribute, Anietie Ukpe, the Director-General of Akwa Ibom Broadcasting Corporation, Uyo, wrote in his Facebook Timeline“But we had a great treasure in an earthen vessel, that the excellency of the power may be of God and not of the earthen vessel.
“He was troubled on every side (lost his father early in life), yet not distressed; he was perplexed (disowned and thrown out of the house by his mother), but did not despair; he was persecuted (sheltered in an incomplete building as a homeless youth), but not forsaken; he was cast down (by lecturers, who were unaware of his many troubles, for his poor grades), but his faith was not destroyed. He kept bearing about his body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life of Jesus might be made manifest in his body.”
Writing under THE INSPIRATIONAL STORY OF THE LATE DR UBONG KING, the Senior Pastor in Insight Bible Church, Uyo, said “These inclement circumstances could not hold him captive. In wealth and affluence, he adorned his mother with comfort and love. His wife who stuck with him through thick and thin, he showered with all the love and affection his heart could hold. Out of the clouds of pain and shame came showers of gain and glory.
According to him, “Just when all of creation was rising to applaud him, he took a bow.
“Earth’s loss is Heaven’s gain. ADIEU BROTHER KING AND GOOD NIGHT!”
