The Senate, Wednesday, confirmed the Director, Communications, Buhari Campaign Organisation, BCO, Festus Keyamo, SAN, as a member, Governing Board of Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation, NDIC.
Also, the Senate confirmed Mrs. Ronke Sokefun from Ogun State, South West, as Chairman, with Garba Bello from Sokoto State, North West; Brigadier General Josef Okoloagu, Enugu State, South East; Mustapha Adewale Mudashiru, Kwara, North Central and Adewale Adeleke, Ondo, South West as members of the corporation.
One of the nominees, Garba Buba, Bauchi, North East, was, however, not confirmed because he did not show up for screening.
The confirmation of the six persons and rejection of one followed the consideration of report of the Senate Committee on Banking, Insurance and other Financial Institutions by the Chairman, Senator Rafiu Adebayo, PDP, Kwara South.
Presenting the report, Senator Ibrahim noted that Keyamo and the other nominees were cleared by the Code of Conduct Bureau, adding that after screening, the nominees were discovered to be resourceful, diligent, articulate, competent, and had the knowledge to work in the positions for which they were nominated.
According to him, the nominees also possess the needed value in the operations of the board of the NDIC.
In his remarks, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, Deputy Senate President, urged the regulatory agencies to be proactive and carry out their assignments effectively.
It would be recalled that the Senate had on May 8, 2018, received a letter from Muhammadu Buhari who sought for the screening and subsequent confirmation of Festus Keyamo, SAN as a member, governing board of Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation, NDIC.
In the letter dated March 27, 2018, received by the office of the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, Keyamo represents Delta State.
The six other nominees were Olabode Akeem Mustapha (chairman, Ogun State), Garba Buba (Bauchi State), Bello Garba (Sokoto State), Joseph OJ Okalogu (Enugu State), Mustapha Adewale Mudashiru (Kwara State) and Adewale Adeleke (Ondo State).
The letter which was read on the floor of the Senate by the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki was titled, “Request for confirmation of appointment of Chairman and members of the Governing Board of the Nigerian Deposit Insurance Corporation.”
The letter read: “In compliance with Section 54 of the Nigerian Deposit Insurance Corporation Act 2006 it is my pleasure to forward to the distinguished Senate the under listed nominees for confirmation as the Chairman and members of the Board of Nigerian Deposit Insurance Corporation.”
