After a four-hour closed door meeting, South East Leaders have renewed their commitment to a united Nigeria founded on justice, fairness, love and respect for one another.
Held at the Government House, Enugu, the meeting came up at the instance of an expanded meeting with the Presidential delegation led by the Minister of Defence, Maj. Gen. Bashir Magashi (rtd.) on June 11.
In a communique of the group, the Chairman of South East Governors Forum and Governor of Ebonyi State, Dave Umahi reinstated their position to condemn the activities of secessionist group in the region.
The group pledged to protect non-Igbo residing in the region, urging leaders of other regions to address threat and protect Ndigbo in their domains.
The group threw their weight behind Ebubeagu Corps and said it remains the only recognised community security outfit for the South East.
The meeting which had representatives from the political, religious, academia and the apex Igbo socio-cultural group, Ohaneze Ndigbo, agreed to hold another meeting with the Presidential team.
