Akwa Ibom Governor, Udom Emmanuel has directed Ministry of Works to take remedial measures to control the incessant flooding that has caused loss of property worth millions of Naira in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State capital.

Emmanuel who on Tuesday, July 9 undertook an on-the-spot-assessment tour of flood-ravaged areas in the state capital said “Our terrain maybe flood-prone but I have given instructions that we would continue on our long term strategies to eliminate flooding in the state.”

In recent times particularly in 2019, flood has turned Uyo to native drum resulting in many people living near flood-prone areas writhing in pains.

Investigations by Straightnews shows that the flood has submerged many buildings and swept off many household property and farmlands.

In particular, the torrential rains of June 5, 12, and 19, this year had wreaked havoc while July 7 rains causing heavy flooding of many roads and streets in the metropolis inflicted more losses and agonies on house owners and pedestrians.

Some of the areas inspected by the Governor included Abak Road by Nkemba Street, IBB Avenue, Idongesit Nkanga Secretariat, Atan Offot and Shelter Afrique Estate, among others.

Among the persons in the trip were Dr. Emmanuel Ekuwem, the Secretary to the State Government; Elder Effiong Essien, Head of Civil Service and Mr. Ephraim Inyang-eyen, immediate past Commissioner for Works.
