    Umoatan takes over as ICAN Southern Zonal District Chairman

    A six-member executive committee to man the Institute of Chartered Accountant of Nigeria (ICAN), Southern Zonal District for the 2023/2024 year has been inaugurated.  

    After the biennial general held at Edinan Hotels & Suites, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State on Saturday, June 10, the executive members were elected and formally inaugurated.

    Elder Udo Sam Umoatan, FCA, the current Chairman of Uyo and District Society, is the Zonal Chairman. Mr Solomon Ejikeme, FCA of Abraka & District Society and Mr. Edwin Okoye of Port Harcourt & District Society are the Zonal Vice Chairman and Zonal General Secretary respectively.

    Others are Elder Dan Nicholas Obun, PH.D, FCA of Calabar & District Society is the Zonal Assistant Secretary; Mr Abu Oseni, FCA of Auchi & District Society is the Zonal Treasurer and the position of Zonal Conference Accountant goes to Mr Ombu Ebipuado, ACA of Yenagoa & District Society.

    The Electoral Committee members had Chief Allison Amachree Rollins, FCA of Yenagoa & District Society as the Chairman; Mr Cosmas Onuenaji, FCA of Asaba & District Society as Secretary while Dr Mbobo Erasmus Mbobo, FCA of Uyo & District Society was a member.

    The election was witnessed by the immediate past Zonal Chairman, Dr. Bariweni Binaebi, FCA of Yenagoa & District Society; immediate past Zonal General Secretary, Dr. MM Sharlywest Eboigbe, FCA of Benin & District Society.

    .In attendance at the Zonal meeting included representatives of Abraka & District Society, Delta State; Asaba & District Society, Delta State; Auchi & District Society, Edo State; Benin & District Society, Edo State; Bonny & District Society, Rivers State and Calabar & District Society, Cross River State.

    Others were from Eket & District Society, Akwa Ibom State; Ekpoma & District Society, Delta State; Port Harcourt & District Society, Rivers State; Yenagoa & District Society, Bayelsa State; Warri & District Society, Delta State and Uyo & District Society, Akwa Ibom State, among others.

    In response, Umoatan who commended the members for electing him and other officers to serve the body, called on members to cooperate with the elected officers for them to deliver their campaign promises.

    The Zonal Chairman who announced to mount Zonal Conference from August 8-11, 2023 in Benin City urged members to brace up to attend the Conference.

    The ICAN zonal office situates in Port Harcourt, Rivers State capital.

    ICAN, whose membership comprises accountants, auditors, and accounting technicians, was established in 1965 by Act of Parliament No. 15 of September 1, 1965 (the ICAN Act).
