Suspected abductors have freed Iniodu George Ukpong, a lecturer in the Faculty of Biological Sciences, University of Cross River (UNICROSS), Calabar.
Ukpong who is a professor of Environmental Parasitology from Ikot Inyang Udo Village, Ukanafun Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State was kidnapped by unknown men in Calabar last Thursday night.
Though it is not known if the family had paid ransom before his release, it was gathered that the university don was calling friends, relations and colleagues to send him money to secure his release.

In a post in Sitippe Ke Ukanafun Whatsapp group, Imo Eme, a former International President of Ati Annang, announced ‘‘To God be the glory, Prof Iniodu George Ukpong has been released from the den of the kidnappers. Prof is recuperating at the moment and thanking God for His mercies and benevolence.’’
According to him, ‘‘We thank everyone who has been supportive of this cause in one way or the other. May God bless you all.’’
However, some of his past students took to their Facebook pages on Tuesday, June 13 to celebrate his release.

Innocent Ogban who studied Environmental Biology at Cross River University of Technology (CRUTECH) wrote ‘‘Prof George has been released by his abductors. To God be the glory!’’
