    UNIPORT Loses Part-Two Medical Student

    Amidst wailing by relations and colleagues, a 23-year-old medical student of the University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT), Rivers State who died at a football pitch was, Monday, buried in Uyo, Akwa Ibom capital.

    Christian Edet Bassey who was a part-two student of the Department of Physiology in the Faculty of Medical, Pharmaceutical and Health Sciences of the university was alleged to have slumped and died while he was playing football at the UNIPORT sports ground Thursday last week at 5 p.m.

    An indigene of Ikot Akpan Ike in Nsit Atai local government area of Akwa Ibom State, he was buried in his father’s compound at 25 Ewet Street, Uyo after a funeral service conducted by Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries, 57 Oron Road, Uyo.

    A family source confided in Straightnews that Christian had heart problem from his formative days and might have ignored advice by a medical expert not to engage in tedious activities.

    Marine Captain Edet Bassey, retd, in an interview with Straightnews, lamented over the loss of his second son, saying “It is disheartening losing a boy of 23 and a part-two medical student. It is painful. I do not want comment more.”

    Memory, his senior brother described it as painful. “He was so young and was my confidant,” he said.

    Memory who is a student of Heritage Polytechnic, Ikot Udoata, Eket in the Electronic/Electrical Engineering Department, said “He had dreams, but now he is gone forever. Losing him to death is like having a bad dream.”

    Born on May 3, 1995, Christian attended Aunty Margaret International School, Calabar and Uncle Effiong Primary School, Calabar where he obtained his his First School Leaving Certificate, FSLC, in 2004.

    Survived by a father, mother and two brothers, he attended University of Calabar Secondary School where he got his SSCE in 2012. In 2014, he got his ‘A’ level papers from Akwa Ibom State College of Art and Science, Nung Ukim in Ikono local government area. In 2017, he gained admission into the University of Port Harcourt.
