Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges of Education in the country are set to make about N3.4 billion as revenues from the conduct of post-UTME tests and screenings of applicants, according to statistics obtained from the results of the 2019 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination conducted by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB.
With the cost of post-UTME tests and screenings pegged at N2,000 by the Federal Government, the revenues are from admission seekers whose scores are within the range of those to be called for such tests and screenings.
The Registrar of JAMB, Prof. Isaq Oloyede, while announcing the release of the results of the 2019 UTME, gave a breakdown of scores recorded by candidates.
According to him, a total of 427,242 candidates scored 200 marks and above.
With post-UTME tests and screenings pegged at N2,000 per candidate, that amounts to N854,484,000 income to universities that are expected to call applicants who scored 200 marks and above in the UTME for tests and screenings.
Polytechnics are to rake in N1,712,404,000 from 856,202 candidates who scored between 160 and 199 marks and are to sit for their tests and screenings.
For Colleges of Education, 410,844 candidates who scored between 140 and 159 marks are expected to sit for tests and screenings that would provide a revenue of N821,688,000 for the colleges.
More than 1.7 million candidates sat for the examination and 99,463 scored below 140 marks.
Also, 34,120 results were withheld, while 15,145 results were still being probed when the results were announced by the JAMB boss.
