A groundswell of protests condemning the lingering leadership crisis rocking Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly caused by the sack of five legislators by the house hold sway.
Women under the aegis of Legislative Wives Association, LEWA and Senior Assistants to Governor Udom Emmanuel Wednesday protested in the premises of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, denouncing the crisis rocking the house.
The women led by Dr. Gloria Edet, Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare in company of Dr. Uduak, wife of Onofiok Luke, the state assembly speaker, who is LEWA President, dressed in black outfits, wore black fez caps and held placards with various inscriptions.
Amazing Grace, the campaign team of Onofiok Luke, speaker of the state House of Assembly, tweeted thus:
Akwa Ibom women in their numbers storm the Assembly, led by Dr. Glory Edet, Hon. Comm, Ministry of women affairs and Social Welfare, LEWA President @Udyleanmean and her members, SAs.
Their demand is simply, CP Musa Kimo must go!#AkwaIbomUnderSiege @OfficialPDPNig @atiku
Condemning the recent crisis rocking the Assembly, they accused Musa Kimo, the state Commissioner of Police for being complicit in the crisis and demanded for his redeployment.
Speaker of the Akwa Ibom Assembly, Onofiok Luke, later came out and addressed the women.
Also, youths of Eket Senatorial District protested Tuesday and barricaded the major routes leading to the property of ExxonMobil.
Repot from the area said the youths numbering hundreds blocked ExxonMobil house in Eket and office, calling for the removal of the state police boss for his complicity in the crisis.
Again, thousands of students converged on the house of assembly complex yesterday to also register their resentment over the recent crisis rocking the state legislative system.
However, critics have condemned the action, opining that such effort should have been channeled into protesting against the ongoing Academic Staff Union of University (ASUU) strike as well as none payment of bursaries to students.
The protest by Akwa Ibom women come a week after the premises of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly was sealed off by the police.
Lawmakers and staff of the Assembly were on Wednesday, November 21, denied access into the complex as it was cordoned off by armed police personnel.
There was also a heavy security presence at all the entrances leading into the complex.
