It was black Tuesday as 18 members of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) reportedly lost their lives in an auto crash at Mowe Town in Obafemi-Owode local government area of Ogun State, South-west zone of Nigeria.

Straightnews gathered that the corps members were among the 30 passengers including a driver who perished in a commercial bus they were travelling from Kaduna to Lagos.

A Twitter user @Lola_josh who shared the report wrote:

18 corpers lost their lives this early morning sad. They were 30 passengers, they all lost their lives including the driver. 18 corpers and other passengers including the drive didn’t make it. At mowe, coming from kaduna. On their way to lag from kaduna, they were rushed to osuth.

In another development, six persons over the weekend lost their lives in a fatal motor accident along Afaha Obong-Iwukem- Etim Ekpo Road in Akwa Ibom State.

The victims included a mother and her two babies aged between two and three years.

It was gathered that two commercial vehicles- a bus and a cab- collided at Ikot Ese portion of the road and the passengers died on the spot.

A nurse at the Divine Love Hospital, Utu Etim Ekpo in Etim Ekpo local government area said the “Six victims were already dead on arrival.

“We battled frantically to save some souls, but this place is too small to address such emergencies because we lack basic facilities and blood because some had lost so much blood at the time they were brought here.”

The nurse, who pleaded anonymity, added that, “Since we don’t have mortuary facility here, the corpses were later moved to the nearby General Hospital at Azumini, Abia State.

“Please, let us be more conscious and watchful as we drive on the road because what I have seen today is so shocking, especially the death of the young mother with her two babies age between two and three years.”

She appealed to the government to equip and provide essential facilities, personnel and other essential materials “for us to be able to take care of emergencies.”
