Thirty-three families of deceased officers who paid the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty received cheques of N37,280,296.36.

The Akwa Ibom State Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Mohammed Azare made the presentation on Tuesday at the conference room of the Command Headquarters, Ikot Akpan Abia, Uyo.

Azare said the cheques were issued on behalf of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olukayode Egbetokun, are part of the IGP Family Welfare and Group Life Assurance Schemes presented to 33 beneficiaries who are next-of-kin to the deceased officers.

The CP, while presenting the cheques to beneficiaries, commended the IGP’s generosity, stating that the cheques will help the families tremendously and serve as a reminder that even if their loved ones are no longer with them, the sacrifices they made can never be forgotten.

He acknowledged the deep sense of concern of the Inspector General of Police, especially on the wellbeing of the officers and men of the Nigeria Police Force.

Azare assured that the police is relentless in its welfare scheme for its personnel, and will not back down on the initiative, especially for all deceased officers who sacrificed their lives fighting for the peace and progress of the country.

“The police is relentless in its welfare scheme for its personnel, and will not back down on the initiative, especially for all deceased officers who sacrificed their lives fighting for the peace and progress of the country.”

He, however, admonished beneficiaries to apply maximum wisdom in administering the funds, emphasizing that the sacrifices of the deceased officers would never be forgotten.

In a similar development, the command has pledged to collaborate with retired police officers in Akwa Ibom, to ensure their well-being at all times.

The State Commissioner of Police, Azare made the pledge while playing host to the National Association of the Retired Police Officers of Nigeria (NARPON) Akwa Ibom State Chapter at the command’s headquarters Ikot Akpan Abia on Tuesday.

He expressed gratitude to NARPON for their collaborative approach in addressing issues affecting retired police officers

Azare praised NARPON for choosing dialogue over protests, noting that this approach would lead to more lasting solutions.

He promised that the Akwa Ibom Police Command would support NARPON’s requests, including facilitating the acquisition of land for a permanent meeting hall.

Earlier, the State Chairman of (NARPON), Chief Anselem Eyo, had expressed delight for the command’s effort in combating crimes in the state.

Anselem urged the command to collaborate with the association in sharing experience that will aid security in the state.
