    5 Ex-Corps Members Of Akwa Ibom Origin Get Presidential Handshake

    Five Akwa Ibom indigenes made the Presidential honour’s roll of outstanding Corps members in Nigeria.

    They were among the 110 Corps members of 2018/2019 NYSC batch recently honoured by the Presidency in Abuja and rewarded with scholarship and automatic jobs.

    The recipients were Alex Gideon, Comrade Winifred Ernest, Nyebuk Aniekan Etukudo, Elizabeth Peter Udofia and Nsikak Douglas Etuk.

    Receiving them when they paid him a courtesy call in his office, Comrade Ini Ememobong, the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, charged them to “Youth Ambassadors in Government” to showcase the awards.

    Ememobong congratulated the beneficiaries for excelling during their service years and for adding to the success story of Akwa Ibom people.

    He reiterated that their outstanding performance was a demonstration of the “Dakkada” spirit inherent in Akwa Ibom people, and urged them to continue to remain good ambassadors of their families, state and nation.

    Earlier, Gideon, the team leader, said the honourees were in the Commissioner’s office to present themselves as worthy Ambassadors of the State, ready to contribute their quota to the development of Akwa Ibom.

    He thanked the Commissioner for the honour done them and congratulated him on the numerous life touching programmes and strides so far recorded since assumption of office as the information helmsman.

    Alex Gideon, who served in Kogi State, undertook Community Development Service of Award of scholarship to indigent students and provided modern toilet facility at the Koton-Karfe Central Mosque in Kogi State.

    Comrade Winifred Ernest, who served in Sokoto State, constructed Sultan Attahiru Secondary School security gate, organized inter-science quiz competition involving 15 secondary schools and paid school fees.

    She also and provided stationary, scientific calculators and dictionaries, as prizes to benefiting students and undertook sensitisation  and distribution of sanitary materials to 15 schools in Sokoto North and Sokoto South Local Government Areas.

    Nyebuk Aniekan Etukudo, who served in Cross River State, reconstructed the School sign- post as well as procured and presented 40 black board dusters, 40 packets of chalk, four learning Chats to a school at the Divisional Police Station, Sankwala.

    While Elizabeth Peter Udofia who served in Taraba State renovated the dilapidated library structure, furnished and equipped the library as well as donated books and other educational materials to a school he served, Etuk Nsikak Douglas who served in Sokoto State organised Occular screening and sensitisation on neglected tropical diseases in Sokoto South Local Government Area.

    Douglas, a medical doctor also rehabilitated the Optometry Clinic in the Specialist Hospital in Sokoto as well as constructed the local incinerator in the hospital.
