After two years and four months in the office, Akwa Ibom Governor Umo Eno has dissolved statutory and non-statutory boards and commissions in the state.

The Secretary to the State Government, SSG, Enobong Uwah, who made the announcement in a press release on Thursday in Uyo, the state capital, directed axed chairmen of commissions and boards to hand over to the most senior officer.

The SSG stated that Governor Eno acted under the Statutory Boards (Special Provisions) Law, 2023, adding that the decision takes immediate effect.

“The governor wishes members of the dissolved boards and commissions well in their future endeavours.

“The governor commends them for the roles they have played towards achieving the promises contained in the ARISE agenda,” Uwah said.

The SSG also directed the chairmen of the defunct agencies to hand over government property in their custody to the most senior officers in their establishments.

During a media chat to mark the 37th anniversary of the state’s creation in 2024, the governor hinted of the looming dissolution of the state executive council, including statutory and non-statutory boards.

According to the governor, the dissolution would not come as a surprise to the commissioners who had dedicated their time and energy to the state’s development.

He added that he was “waiting for the right time” to hold a valedictory session to appreciate the commissioners and board members for their contributions to the growth of the state.
