The return of Dr. Unyime Idem to House of Representatives for a third term has gained a solid ground as critical stakeholders in Ukanafun/Oruk Anam Federal Constituency have given him opportunity to serve again.

Idem who is representing Ukanafun and Oruk Anam Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives for a second term is asked to return to the Green Chambers for his superlative performance.

On Monday, April 27, critical stakeholders from the Federal Constituency stormed his residence in Uyo unanimously endorsed and adopted him as consensus candidate ahead of the 2027 National Assembly Election.

The stakeholders made the declaration at a well-attended meeting, where they deliberated on the future of the constituency.

The stakeholders hailed his superlative performance in office, noting that his record of projects and empowerment programmes has set a benchmark for legislative representation across the country.

The Honorary Special Adviser to the Governor on Labour Matters, Rt. Hon. Udo Kieran Akpan, moved for the endorsement and adoption of Idem and the motion was seconded by a former member for Ukanafun State Constituency in Akwa Ibom state House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Saturday Akpan.

The stakeholders agreed that the representative has transformed the federal constituency into a model admired by others nationwide, insisting that he deserves another term to deepen and expand on the progress already made, pledging their continued support as he prepares for the forthcoming electoral cycle.

The stakeholders also adopted the President, Bola Tinubu, Senate President, Godswill Akpabio and Governor Umo Eno, as their candidates for re-election in the 2027 polls, promising to deliver massive votes for them in the federal constituency.

One of the aspirants, Dr. David Umoessien agreed that there was need for constituents to sheathe their swords, close ranks and work together for the success of the President, Senate President, Governor and the Federal lawmaker in the forthcoming elections.

Responding, Idem thanked the stakeholders for giving him the opportunity to represent them in the National Assembly, stressing that it is a great privilege which he did not take for granted.

‘‘There is no way I could have done much without the support and cooperation of my people. This declaration is not just about me, but about sustaining and expanding the development we have collectively achieved,’’ he said.

The Chairman, House Committee on Public Procurement briefed the constituents about his programmes and projects, including the various levels of empowerment, trainings, local and foreign scholarships, facilitation of federal employment for constituents, donation of 25 units of 500 KVA transformers, rehabilitation and restoration of electricity in the federal constituency with a commitment to link up all the villages to the national grid, among others.

The Ukanafun-born politician urged the people to shun divisive tendencies and be united for progress and development of the area.

He formally declared his intention to seek re-election into the Green Chambers, saying ‘‘My decision was driven by the need to consolidate on the gains already recorded in the constituency through various projects and programmes.

Idem said his aspiration aligns with the broader development objectives of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and Governor Umo Eno’s ARISE Agenda blueprint for Akwa Ibom State.

On efforts to unite the party ahead of the primaries, he said he has already reached out to other contenders for the position, who promised to close ranks and work together to ensure the success of the APC in the forthcoming elections.

The revered House member thanked the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, and Governor Umo Eno for their support for my aspiration, as well as their impactful leadership, projects, and programmes that have positively influenced the constituency, the state, and the nation.

In a landmark boost to his aspiration, one of the leading contenders for the position, Dr. David Umoessien, surrendered his ambition and support structure to him, pledging to work and ensure his re-election in 2027.

As part of efforts to reconcile other aspirants and their groups in the All Progressives Congress, Idem announced a nine-member reconciliatory committee headed by Deacon Ndianabasi Udom with Dr. Paul Udofia as Secretaryto unite the party ahead of the primaries.

    Reactions from social media

Meanwhile, some netizens in the social media have hailed the decisions of the stakeholders to endorse and adopt Idem for a third term.

    Endurance Imoh Job

The unanimous adoption of Rt. Hon. (Dr.) Unyime Idem as consensus candidate by critical stakeholders of Ukanafun/Oruk Anam Federal Constituency is not merely a political endorsement, it is a resounding affirmation of superlative representation, legislative sagacity, and developmental statecraft.

When elder statesmen and technocrats converge in one accord to enthrone continuity, it underscores a fundamental truth, where performance is incontrovertible, consensus becomes inevitable.

Rep. Idem’s declaration to seek a fresh mandate is therefore not an act of personal ambition, but a response to the collective clarion call for consolidation of democratic dividends. His stewardship from facilitation of federal employment, empowerment of over Thousands of Constituents first in history in Nigeria, electrification projects, foreign and local scholarships, has elevated the bar of representation and provided a template for legislative excellence nationwide.

In sum, Rep. Unyime Idem is a testament to the politics of performance over propaganda, substance over sentiment, and results over rhetoric. Ukanafun/Oruk Anam Federal Constituency has spoken with one voice, experience is not to be discarded, capacity is not to be gambled with, and progress is not to be interrupted. The constituency has chosen continuity of excellence over experimentation.

Ilung Eyem Dr. Unyime idem even the unborn generation.

This is the congregation of the real masquerades (aka) stakeholders not the Ekpo ntok ajen stakeholders we saw being paraded the other day. This reminds me of the folktale I heard about the centipede and the millipede who were embarking on a journey and forgot to close their pot of soup, halfway into the journey, millipede remembered their pot of soup was left open and suggested to his partner that they go back and close the pot so that no insects or crawling creatures might get into the soup, then the partner laughed and responded sarcastically thus: Da sang Jak Ika, me anie ekama ndidieen, eseduo eduk efere Jak agwo edidiaha aba? nkor mmimo! Lol.

    It is well- deserving, Sir.

    Congratulations to you!

But bear it in mind, that you are going to replace Umoh Eno come 2031, so get prepared because you have a greater task ahead in replicating your achievements at a larger scale at the state level.

I will personally superintend your campaigns at no cost.

I am going to do it on the premise that quality leadership should be encouraged in the state.

Though I come from Etinan Federal Constituency, I can’t ignore your conspicuous and quality performance in your federal constituency.

Once again congratulations to you, sir!
