Families of four remaining members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in the kidnappers’ den are demanded to pay N20 million ransom each.

Initially, the gunmen abducted 15 corps members travelling from Bayelsa State to Abuja after their three-week orientation exercise along Aloma-Egane Expressway in Ofu Local Government Area of Kogi State.

The incident occurred on 26 August at about 4:40 p.m. near the Ogene Zaria/Onicha-Igo Junction, when armed men emerged from the bush and blocked two buses travelling in opposite directions.

However, the Kogi State Police Command’s spokesperson, Saliu Afusat, stated this in a statement issued in response to a press inquiry, that it had rescued 11 NYSC members and other passengers abducted along the Aloma-Egane Expressway in Ofu Local Government Area of the state.

A family member of one of the victims told Daily Trust that the abductors had contacted them to make known their ransom demand.

“One of our daughters who was kidnapped on her way from Bayelsa State to Abuja after completing three weeks orientation camp. The kidnappers are requesting N20 million naira,” the family source said.

The development comes after the Kogi State Police Command confirmed the abduction of some passengers, including NYSC members, along the route.

The command had said 11 abducted persons, including the drivers of the two vehicles involved, were rescued following a joint operation by security personnel, while efforts were ongoing to locate and rescue those still in captivity.

Families of some of the victims have since appealed to the Federal Government, the NYSC and security agencies to intensify efforts to secure the release of those still being.
