The leader of the Niger Junta, General Abdourahmane Tchiani, has agreed to explore diplomatic dialogue to resolve the political impasse in the country. Tchiani spoke on Saturday during a meeting with Nigeria’s intervention team comprising Islamic scholars led by the national chairman of Jamatul Izalatu Bida Waikamatu Sunnah, Bala Lau. Two persons died, and one sustained injuries in an auto crash involving a Mitsubishi bus and Hyundai Accent along Eket-Oron Road on Sunday. In a statement to journalists in Uyo on Sunday, the sector commander, FRSC, Akwa Ibom Command, Matthew Olonisaye, attributed the crash to speeding and route violation. The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has predicted three days of cloudiness, rainfall and thunderstorms across the country from Saturday to Monday. NiMet said there would be cloudy skies on Saturday, August 12, with intervals of sunshine over the northern region and chances of early morning thunderstorms in states such as Kebbi, Adamawa and Taraba. The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has suspended its nationwide strike and will resume work on Saturday.
