The Kano State High Court Friday sentenced to death by hanging the Proprietor of Nobel Kids Academy and North West Preparatory School, Abdulmalik Tanko. Straightnews had reported that Tanko, the principal suspect was accused of masterminding the kidnap and killing of a five-year-old school girl, Hanifa Abubakar. The presiding Judge, Justice Usman Na’abba, gave the order while delivering his judgment. Justice Usman Na’aba found guilty the 2nd and 3rd accused persons, Hashim Isiyaku and Fatima Musa guilty in four counts charges in the case of the murder of the five-year-old Hanifa Abubakar sometimes last year. The House of Representatives has resolved to investigate the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) over comments by the Akwa Ibom Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mike Igini. Igini in his recent interview with Arise News relying on Section 115(d) of the Electoral Act 2022 claimed that politicians who bought two nomination forms risked two years imprisonment. Senators from opposition parties have dangled impeachment threat on President Muhammadu Buhari by giving him a six-week ultimatum to tackle the security challenges bedevilling the country. The Independent National Electoral Commission has affirmed that no candidate violated the provisions of Section 115 of the Electoral Act 2022 relating to the nomination of candidates. INEC’s National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, Festus Okoye, stated this in an interview with Punch correspondent on Tuesday. Popular lawyer and human rights activist, Inibehe Effiong said Akwa Ibom Chief Judge, Justice Ekaette Obot, has allegedly sentenced him to a one-month imprisonment. The lawyer said this occurred after he had asked her to send away armed mobile policemen from the court room for fear of insecurity. Senator Shehu Sani, who represented Kaduna Central in the 8th National Assembly, has expressed sadness over the killing of soldiers by terrorists in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. Gunmen suspected to be terrorists had attacked some officials of the 7 Guards Battalion of the Nigerian Army Presidential Guards Brigade in Bwari Area Council of the FCT. Following the exit of Resident Electoral Commissioners from Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), President Muhammadu Buhari has sent a list of 19 nominees to Senate for deliberation and confirmation. The request was contained in a letter dated 25th July 2022, and read by the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, at the start of the plenary on Tuesday at the National Assembly.
