The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has rejected the salary package the Federal Government offered, describing the salary as  ‘miserly’ offer. The ASUU President, Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke in a statement said, “The major reason given by the Federal Government for the miserly offer, paucity of revenue, is not tenable.” This is as the Federal Government on Thursday insisted that it will not concede to the demand by ASUU members to be paid the backlog of salaries withheld during the ongoing strike. Workers under the aegis of the National Union of Electricity Employees  (NUEE) on Wednesday evening called off their few-hour nationwide strike. The union took this decision after an emergency meeting with the Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Tuesday, August 16, arraigned an internet influencer, Portia Emilia before a Lagos Special Offences Court, in Ikeja over alleged N110 million fraud. Emilia was arraigned alongside her company Savanah Crest Investment Limited before the court. After 20 days being detained in a Correctional Centre, Inibehe Effiong, the jailed human rights lawyer, has sued the Chief Judge of Akwa Ibom State, Ekaette Obot, over the her refusal to furnish him with his conviction order and copies of court proceedings.
