The House of Representatives has re-gazetted controversial National Water Resources Bill, 2020, and shifted its second reading to September. The bill had re-emerged on the floor of the House of Representatives on June 29, 2022, amidst suspicions from members. The Federal Government sent the Bill to the National Assembly requesting its passage into law in 2017, but it was rejected. Oshoala won a record fifth African Women’s Player of the Year Award while Mane, the Bayern Munich forward picked up African Footballer of the Year award for a second time. A 31-year-old man in Akwa Ibom State has been sentenced to death for killing his 22-year-old girlfriend over accusation of infidelity. Ubon Udo Edet, a native of Use Ndon in Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area, was condemned Thursday by Akwa Ibom State High Court in Uyo presided by Justice Ntong Ntong. Russia on Thursday restored critical gas supplies to Europe through Germany via the Nord Stream pipeline after 10 days of maintenance, but suspicion lingered that the Kremlin would trigger an energy crisis on the continent this winter. Germany, which is heavily dependent on Russian gas, had feared that Moscow would not reopen the pipeline after the scheduled work and accused Moscow of using energy as a “weapon.” The showdown came amid the worst tensions in several years over Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) and tertiary education stakeholders on Thursday in Abuja adopted 140 as the minimum cut-off mark for 2022 admission into the nation’s universities. Players of Rivers United collected $20,000, over N12 million each for winning the 2021/2022 Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL). A Magistrate Court in Uyo, Akwa Ibom, has transferred alleged rape case of Moses Armstrong, Nollywood actor to the state High Court for trial. Police arrested the actor in June 2022 for allegedly raping a 16-year-old girl about three years ago. The alleged victim, who was said to have been schooling outside Nigeria, returned to the country recently and petitioned the wife of the state governor with respect to the rape allegation.
