Benue Governor Samuel Ortom on Thursday, unveiled Community Volunteer Guards, assuring to apply for licence for them to carry AK47 and other sophisticated weapons. The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) says it is illegal to disconnect electricity consumers from the source of power supply without a 10-day prior notice from the date of bill delivery. Mr Babatunde Irukera, Executive Vice Chairman of the commission, stated this on Wednesday in Calabar at an electricity consumer complaint resolution platform, The commission, saying the Discos must notify the consumers in writing ahead of the disconnection of electricity service before doing so,. Drama ensued as Uduak Akpan who raped and killed Iniubong Umoren, the female job seeker, was overpowered by security officials as he attempted to escape after hearing death sentence. Uduak Akpan was tried and sentenced to death by Akwa Ibom State High Court for murdering Miss Umoren in his father’s compound in Nung Ikono Obio in Uruan Local Government Area of the state in April last year. The total number of registered voters in Nigeria has risen from 84 million to 96.2 million for 2023 general elections, Independent National Electoral Commission announced. The latest voter statistics released by INEC shows that 12.2 million voters registered in the Continuous voter registration that ended on Sunday. According to INEC, the North-West geopolitical zone, which comprises Sokoto, Zamfara, Kano, Kaduna, Katsina, Kebbi and Jigawa, has a total of 22.67 million registered voters, the highest number of registered voters.
