Tottenham displayed their Premier League title credentials as goals from Son Heung-min and Giovani Lo Celso exposed Manchester City’s defensive frailties in a 2-0 win that took Jose Mourinho’s men top of the table on Saturday. Spurs have not won an English top-flight title in 60 years, but showed defensive resilience to frustrate City’s domination of possession and their clinical counter-attacking was reminiscent of Mourinho’s title-winning sides in two spells at Chelsea. Victory moved Tottenham moved two points ahead of Chelsea, who they face next weekend at Stamford Bridge. Defeat leaves City already eight points off the leaders, albeit with…
Nigeria has entered its second recession in five years as official figures published on Saturday show that the economy shrank again in the third quarter of this year. This year’s recession, occasioned by the economic fallout of the COVID-19 pandemic, is worse than that of 2016. The National Bureau of Statistics, in its Gross Domestic Product report for Q3, said the GDP, the broadest measure of economic prosperity, fell by 3.62 in the three months to September. Report from Punch says that economists consider two consecutive quarters of shrinking GDP as the technical definition of a recession. For the first…
The Nigerian Army has again twisted its evidence by admitting to bringing live bullets to Lekki tollgate on October 20, 2020 during the ENDSARS protest. Cable News Network had a few days ago aired an investigation that showed empty cartridges left by Nigerian soldiers after allegedly shooting at the protesters, and the bullets were said to be produced in Siberia. At a press conference a day after, Lai Mohammed, the Minister of Information and Culture, accused CNN of lying and harped on the need to sanction the station. Brigadier-General Ibrahim Taiwo, Commander of the 81 Division of the Nigerian Army…
The Queen of England, Queen Elizabeth II, and her husband; Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Philip, have marked their 73rd wedding anniversary. The royals have marked the occasion by releasing a photograph of them reading a card made by their great-grandchildren, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, The Guardian reports. The couple are pictured on a sofa in the Oak Room at Windsor Castle, where they are spending lockdown. In perhaps a symbolic reference to their long marital union, the Queen chose to wear a chrysanthemum brooch, made from sapphires and diamonds set in platinum. She wore the same brooch…
