Two persons from Ikot Ibekwe village in Ukanafun Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom have been sent to their untimely graves.

The two- Chief Ephraim Jacob Obonukut and his son, Prophet Kufre E. Obonukut – were matcheted to death by people suspected to be cultists in their compound.

An eye witness told Straightnews that the cultists came to kill Prophet Kufre but when he raised an alarm, his father showed up to save him unknown to him that that would cost his life too.

”As soon as they saw the father, come matcheted the son while others matcheted the father until they gave up the ghost,’’ an eye witness narrated.

A source from the bereaved family said the killing might not be unconnected with the fact that Prophet Kufre who was the founder of Last Bus Stop Church, Ikot Ibekwe was an object of envy by some church founders in the area.

According to the source, the Prophet was accused of shepherding members from other churches in that he could handle difficult spiritual problems afflicting people, thus turning many to the church for solutions.

”It is very sad to miss a father and a son at the same time. At the moment, the mother is bedridden. The prophet has been buried remaining his father to be buried just to relieve the family of such heavy grief,’’ a family source told Straightnews.

In an interview with Straightnews on Sunday, October 10, the state Public Police Officer, Odiko MaCdon confirmed the story, saying investigation is ongoing.

The suspect, according to him, is on the run and has not been arrested yet, assuring that he would be nabbed and made to face justice to serve as a deterrent to others.
