Two persons including a hunter were killed by unsuspected herdsmen Sunday night in Obin-Ayama community, Ika North-East and Onitsha-Olona, Aniocha North Local Government Areas, Delta State.
This came as three persons were arrested by the police at Ogbelo-Ogume community, Ndokwa West Local Government Area of the state for cattle rustling.
Undisclosed source said the hunters were in the bush close to Ndemili, Ndokwa West, at midnight in search of animals when the herdsmen killed them and inflicted matchete cuts on another.
One of the sources , who pleaded anonymity, said; “They went into the bush for hunting and in the process, they met some herdsmen. One of the hunters, Mr. Omalieku, was shot dead by the herdsmen and the other one, Benji was brutally injured.
Circumstances which led to the reported killing of the yet unidentified youth by the rampaging herdsmen on a bush path at Onitsha-Olona were still hazy at press time.
Contacted, Mr. Andrew Aniamaka, Police Public Relations Officer of the state command, could not confirm the incident. He, however, said the police and a vigilante team arrested three cattle rustlers at Ogbelo-Ogume community.
Aniamaka said a 17-year-old herdsman had reported at the Kwale that he was attacked in a bush at Umuseti by three persons, who beat him up with sticks, tied his hands and legs made away with 12 of his cows.
He said: “The police and vigilante were able to arrest the suspects at Ogbe-Ogume and recovered eight cows.”
