Nigerian Police investigation report has indicted Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan over allegations that she told a United States-based activist that Senate President Godswill Akpabio was involved in the murder of the late Iniobong Umoren and harvesting of her organs.

The report, dated February 3 and signed by the Commissioner of Police, Police Monitoring Unit, Force Headquarters, Abuja, Akin Fakorede, was addressed to the President of The Unique Family Foundation, Sandra Duru.

Dr. Duru had petitioned the Inspector-General of Police in April 2025.

According to the police, Duru alleged that Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan, who represents Kogi Central Senatorial District, contacted her on March 27, 2025 and claimed that Senator Akpabio and his wife, Unoma, were responsible for the killing of Ms Umoren and the harvesting of her organs to treat the Senate president’s wife.

Duru reported the claim and requested an investigation.

The police said Akpoti-Uduaghan was invited and made a cautionary statement on April 28, 2025, in which she denied making the allegation.

A witness, Ina Agu, who provided Duru’s phone number to the senator, was also invited and made a statement on how the call was initiated.

The report stated that a forensic voice analysis of the audio recording confirmed the voice was human.

Detectives were also deployed to Akwa Ibom State to review the murder of Umoren, including the post-mortem report, trial records and interviews with members of her family.

According to the report, the post-mortem examination showed that no organ of the deceased was missing.

The police added that Umoren’s family confirmed that no organs were removed from her body.

Certified true copies of the trial records of Uduak Akpan, who was convicted and sentenced to death for the murder in 2021, were also examined.

The police concluded that the information about organ harvesting allegedly communicated by Akpoti-Uduaghan was false.

The report stated that Akpabio and his wife had no involvement in the murder of Umoren or any alleged organ harvesting.

Based on Duru’s petition and the outcome of the investigation, the police said the office of the Attorney-General of the Federation filed a three-count charge of criminal defamation against Akpoti-Uduaghan at the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory on March 29, 2025, under Sections 391 and 392 of the Penal Code applicable in the FCT.

The case did not proceed after Akpabio discontinued the prosecution, leading the Attorney-General to apply for a withdrawal of the charges.

The police commended Duru for reporting the allegation and cooperating with investigators.

Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has been involved in several disputes with the Senate leadership since assuming office.

Her disagreements with Godswill Akpabio began in February 2025, when she accused the Senate leadership of marginalisation and unfair treatment.

She later accused the Senate president of sexual harassment.

Akpabio denied the allegations. The Senate subsequently suspended Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan for six months. The dispute led to public exchanges between both parties in the media and on social platforms.

    Akpabio Forgives Senator Natasha

Meanwhile, Akpabio said he had directed his lawyers to withdraw all pending defamation suits against individuals who had allegedly made false claims against him.

Akpabio gave the directive on Thursday, January 1 while speaking at the Sacred Heart Parish, Uyo, after listening to a New Year sermon delivered by the parish priest.

Some of the cases include sexual harassment, assassination and organ harvesting.

The senate president explained that the sermon, which centred on forgiveness, love and letting go of past grievances, deeply moved him.

“I had almost nine cases in court against some individuals who defamed me, who lied against me, who slandered my name.

“But I listened to the priest and suddenly realised he was talking to me, so I hereby direct my solicitors to withdraw all lawsuits against them,” Mr Akpabio said.

In 2025, Mr Akpabio had sued Mrs Akpoti-Uduaghan at the Federal Capital Territory High Court over allegations of sexual harassment she made against him.

The suit, filed on 25 August by his lawyer, S. I. Ameh, SAN, sought N200 billion in general damages and N500 million as litigation costs. He also demanded a public apology and a formal retraction of the allegations in national newspapers.

In addition to that case, Mr Akpabio had filed other defamation suits against the Kogi Central senator over the same allegations. Mrs Akpoti-Uduaghan has denied the allegations has filed separate suits against the senate president.

However, the senate president’s wife, Ekaette Akpabio, also sued Mrs Akpoti-Uduaghan, demanding N350 billion in damages for alleged damages to her husband’s reputation.

Earlier, the Parish Priest of Sacred Heart Parish, Aka, Donatus Udoette, had urged worshippers to embrace peace, forgiveness and reconciliation.

Mr Udoette, who is also the Vicar-General of the Catholic Diocese of Uyo, admonished attendees to let go of past hurts and grievances, stressing that healing and progress come only through forgiveness.

He advised “You have to let go of the past, no matter what it was. All of us carry some luggage of pain and hurt. You have to let go if you want to move on.”

But, Natasha has neither responded to the forgiveness nor withdrawn any of her cases against Akpabio.
